Established in 2021, Grampians Health brings together Ballarat Health Services, Wimmera Health Care Group, Stawell Regional Health and Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital.

Grampians Health Ballarat has the largest clinical trials unit in Western Victoria, and the health service is the primary referral hospital for the Grampians region – which stretches from Bacchus Marsh to the South Australian border.

The region covers around 48,000m2 and is home to over 254,000 people (17% of regional Victoria’s population).

Grampians Health Ballarat is the largest clinical site in rural western Victoria and conducts Phase IB, II, III, IV clinical trials.

The research staff at Grampians Health have over 50 years combined study coordinator experience.

The research team includes over 20 principal investigators, eight study coordinators, and a clinical trials manager and clinical trials assistant.

At Grampians Health Ballarat, clinical trials are currently open in the following disciplines: allied health, anaesthetics, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology, infectious diseases, intensive care, medical oncology, neurology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and surgery

All our research staff are well trained, ICH-GCP certified and adhere to SOPs. We also use electronic systems to manage essential clinical trial documents, which comply with all requirements of GCP.

Our electronic systems include:

  • electronic medical record system (BOSSnet, ARIA and Sponsor based)
  • SiteDocs (for maintaining electronic ISF)
  • ethical review manager (ERM)
  • TrialMATE

Governance

We work closely with our colleagues in the ethics and governance division and have approximate timeframes of:

  • Time to approval around 2-3 weeks after lead site approval
  • Time from site selection to first patient on study of around four weeks
