A holter monitor is a small device, with 5 leads that are attached to your chest with stickers, that record the rate and rhythm of your heart. It is used to diagnose abnormal heart rhythms and can investigate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness and fluttering heart beats.
What to expect?
A holter monitor is usually worn for 24 hours, longer studies may be performed in special circumstances. The monitor is returned to Diagnostic Services, after wearing it for the required time period.
A holter monitor is a non-invasive, painless and safe test that requires no preparation. Please note that we ask you to avoid electric blankets due to interference.
Please mention to the Cardiac Technician applying your monitor if you have any allergies to band aids or sensitive skin.

To access this service you must have a referral from a medical provider - Appointment necessary.
To make a booking, call booking enquiries on 5320 4201 or fax referral to 5320 4713. Referrals can also be emailed to diagnostic@bhs.org.au
The patient name, date of birth, phone number and address must be included on the referral. If using fax or email, you will be contacted via mail with the appointment details.
Please note that you cannot shower while wearing this monitor, so it is ideal to have a shower before your appointment.
