Grampians Health and Eating Disorders Victoria to conduct support sessions in Horsham and Ballarat

Access to eating disorder support is now available closer to home for the Grampians region, with free community information sessions and carer skills workshops coming to Horsham and Ballarat this May.
In a collaborative initiative, Eating Disorders Victoria and Grampians Health are bringing education and support directly to for individuals and families affected by eating disorders.
A workshop for carers and information session will be held in Horsham on 27 May and in Ballarat on 28 May and 29 May.
“These sessions are about creating understanding, breaking down stigma, and offering practical support to those who need it. Whether you’re a concerned parent, friend, or carer, these events offer a safe and informative space to ask questions and connect” said, Stacey English, Grampians Health, Eating Disorder Clinical Nurse Consultant.
Each session will be led by Eating Disorders Victoria’s qualified counsellor, Hallie, and Carer Consultant, Vicki, who has lived experience supporting loved ones through eating disorder recovery and has worked as a carer peer worker in different roles for over 10 years.
“Our multidisciplinary team at the Eating Disorder Clinic cares for people of all ages across the Grampians region, said, Ben Kelly, Chief Operating Officer.
“By working alongside Eating Disorders Victoria, we hope these sessions offer reassurance and a sense of connection for anyone navigating the challenges of an eating disorder. It’s about making sure people know they are not alone, and that support is available.”
According to the latest data from Deloitte Access Economics (2024), an estimated 1.1 million Australians aged over five—approximately 4.45% of the population—are living with an eating disorder. In Victoria alone, this equates to 286,069 people affected in 2023.
Recent data shows that 27% of eating disorder cases are now among those aged 10–19, nearly double the rate recorded in 2012. This shift highlights the growing need for early intervention and community-based support, especially for young people and their families.
In 2023, Grampians Health opened a dedicated eating disorder service that provides a holistic approach in delivering physical and psychological care at the same time, supporting all age groups.
“EDV is really excited to be coming to the Grampians region to offer some in person support,” said Sarah Pollitt from Eating Disorders Victoria. “The community information session in Horsham or Ballarat still have space so please register. The Carer Workshop sessions are filling fast, so let us know you if you are interested. If you can’t make it, support is still available – please reach out to Eating Disorders Victoria or the Grampians Health Eating Disorder Clinic for guidance and assistance.”
